How to help
Types of articles
The sport's primary article is the "top" article of a series which includes four other related topics. The Wikipedians who created these articles intended to divide the topic of Formula One into specific subtopics, and chose the five topics they thought would best accomplish this goal. All six articles should include the template Formula One. The appropriateness of the subtopics is open to discussion.
- Formula One is the main article for the sport, including general information; summaries of the articles on history, cars, and racing; general sections on drivers/constructors, grands prix, and circuits; a section noting the important people in F1's history; a 2004 season section; and a section on the Future of F1.
- History of Formula One - the sport's history, in detail. This should include major regulation changes, major technical advances, and the most important drivers and constructors of each era.
- Formula One cars - a detailed description of the modern F1 car. Information about historical F1 cars belongs in the History article.
- Formula One racing - the schedule and procedure of an F1 grand prix weekend; information about racing strategy.
- Formula One regulations - both current and historical information on the FIA's technical and sporting regulations.
- Future of Formula One - a look at proposed changes to the sport and new regulations for future seasons.
Lists
There are six Formula One-related lists. These should be historically complete, and include the template Formula One.
Grands Prix
There should be a complete article on every race which has been a part of the Formula One calendar since the series started in 1950 (see List of Formula One Grands Prix). Each article should contain:
The source for the example is as follows:

- History. This should cover all F1 races held under that name, and should note changes in venue, and the reasons for the change. The history should also cover races from other series held under the same name, if applicable.
- A chronological list of winners in table format, including year, driver, constructor, location, and links to the relevant race reports.
- At the bottom, the template Formula One races.
- All articles on F1 grands prix should be also part of Category:Formula One Grands Prix.
Race reports
See /Race reports for a list of every race since 1950.
A long-term goal of this project is to create articles containing the results of every Formula One race since the sport's inception in 1950. The articles should have a standard structure:
- Title: "[year] [place] Grand Prix," e.g. 2004 Monaco Grand Prix
- Lead sentence: "The [year] [place] Grand Prix was a Formula One race held from [date] to [date] at [circuit]."
- Heading 1: Report - a few paragraphs summarizing the events of the race
- Heading 2: Classification - the entire classification, with driver, car number, initial grid position, time, and points awarded, in table form.
- Heading 3: Notes - pole position, fastest lap, reasons for retirement from the race, rule changes which affected the race, special circumstances, and any other relevant information (records broken).
- Two infoboxes should be used at the bottom of each race report article:
- Race chronology within a particular season, and
- Race chronology between seasons.
- The two can be combined into a single table, one on top of the other, using the following example format from 2004 Malaysian Grand Prix, which utilizes Template:F1 race report:
- The source for the example is as follows:

- The top row ("Previous_race_in_season" and "Next_race_in_season") shows the next and previous races in the 2004 championship season. The bottom row ("Previous_year's_race" and "Next_year's_race") shows the same race in the next and previous years. If a race is the first of the season, the last race of the previous season goes in the "previous" cell. If it is the last of the season, the first scheduled race of the next season goes in the "next" cell.
- The articles should be added to Category: X in sports, where X is the year of the race, using the format "", and to Category:Formula One race reports.
Circuits
- All F1 circuit articles (i.e. any circuit ever used for an F1 race) should include an infobox:
The source for the example is as follows:

Drivers

The source for the example above is as follows:

Constructors
- All constructors' articles should have an infobox at the top:
The source for the example is as follows:
{{F1 team |

Updating
Since Formula One is a constantly-changing subject, its pages need constant updating. The following guidelines should help when updating F1-related articles.
After a race
- Add the name and team of the winner to the table in the article on the relevant race, e.g. Monaco Grand Prix.
- Create a race report article containing the complete classification, e.g. 2005 Monaco Grand Prix .
- Add the name and team of the winner to the relevant season article, e.g. 2005 Formula One season.
- Update the relevant statistics on the articles of the winning driver and his team.
- Add an outline page for the next race, containing dates, location, and F1 race report table.
After a season
Templates
Templates should be inserted using the syntax . It is no longer necessary to include msg: when inserting templates.
