The following lists the countries of the world in the order of the coverage on the English version of Wikipedia, by searching for ["name of country" site:en.wikipedia.org] at Google.
Notes:
- This list includes dependent territories and some disputed or occupied areas that are de facto independent.
- The number of Google hits will not necessarily be up to date.
- The number of Google hits in the official language(s) (other than English) of the corresponding countries is included for reference and comparison.
- The Google hits work for most countries, but it has a problem differentiating, say, Guinea and Guinea-Bissau, and the Netherlands and the Netherlands Antilles, where one would become a subset of another. Pay special attention to the number of hits of these countries, and use the minus sign in searching (example: ["Guinea" -German -Bissau -Equatorial -New -Papua -Portuguese site:en.wikipedia.org]) if necessary. Mark these countries with an asterisk * where appropriate.
