X-Chat Aqua is in its simplist form a IRC client for Mac OS X. It is based around the X-Chat program which supports multiple Operating Systems including Mac OS X. However, X-Chat relies on X11. X-Chat Aqua does not require X11 and is written to have a native look and feel for Mac OS X.
It has many of the features included in the standard X-Chat, including a tabbed interface, support for multiple servers, and a high level of configurability. It is licensed under the GNU General Public License.
X-Chat Aqua, like X-Chat, can be scripted with a number of programming languages: Perl, Python, Tcl, and Ruby, which are available as external plugins and contain a binary module interface, usually for the C programming language.
