The tribe's 3 500 or so registered members are an Iroquoian people, descendents of the Hurons (or Wendat) who formerly dominated southern Ontario. The band is a member of the Wendat Confederacy, which also includes bands of Huron/Wendats from Quebec, Ontario, Michigan, and Kansas.
