World Petroleum Congress protests

Protests against the World Petroleum Congress meetings took place in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, from June 11th-15, 2000. At their peak, the protests drew an estimated 3,000 people.

The first protest, a march and rally, took place on Sunday, the 11th, the day before the Congress opened. The following day, a contingent of some 500 protestors took the streets surrounding the Congress and later attempted to disrupt the operations of several oil company headquarters nearby.

The following days featured a jail solidarity action which led to the release of arrestees as well as smaller affinity-group actions.
