Webelos is one of the ranks of Cub Scouts. It is usually for fourth and fifth grade boys and is a final step in the transition to becoming a Boy Scout.
Webelos was a neologism whose consonants once stood for the Cub Scout rank progression (Wolf, Bear, Lion, and Scout) but this concept lost meaning when the progression was changed and Lion rank was discontinued. Webelos was later retronymed to mean "We'll Be Loyal Scouts".
