Valadares is a small village 7km far from Oporto, Portugal. The population in 2001 is 9,095, its density is 1,841/km² and the area is 4.94 km²/494 ha. It is reachable by the main road IC1 , formerly known as EN109 . It is mostly known for its beach. It is possible to see some old sanatoriums used mostly in the 1940s and 1950s for people suffering from diseases like tuberculosis and bone fractures. These sanatoriums were built because this region is extremely rich in iodine. Today this shoreside is very popular for its beach bars and nightlife.
