United Provinces of Agra and Oudh

A province of the British Raj, which corresponds to modern Uttar Pradesh state of India. The United provinces of Agra and Oudh were formed by the merger of the British province called the "North-West Province", later renamed as the Province of Agra and the former princely state of Oudh (Awadh) in 1858, after the defeat of the Begum of Oudh in the Revolt of 1857. The province was renamed United Provinces in 1902. The Raj province became Uttar Pradesh state after India's independence in 1947.
