Thorleif Schjelderup-Ebbe is best known for coining the term "Peck Order," or "Pecking Order" as it is more commonly known. The Dominance Hierarchy of chickens and other birds that he studied led him to the conclusion that birds have a very specific, systematic way of deciding who gets the first chance to eat, and who has to wait.
