South Tipperary (Tiobraid Árann Theas in Irish), known until 2002 as Tipperary South Riding, is a local government area in Ireland, consisting of the southern part of County Tipperary. South Tipperary was established in 1898 and has had a county council ever since, with separate assize courts since 1838. The main town is Clonmel. Other important centres include Cashel, Cahir, and Tipperary town.
