Shop

A shop is an enclosed location where a specific activity is carried out. In manufacturing operations, such as in motor car assembly, the term can be frequently used as in upholstery shop and paint shop.

In education, the term shop is used informally to describe courses in vocational education (or industrial arts) and classroom specifically tailored for these classes, such as wood shop and auto shop.

In more general usage, a shop is taken to mean a retail shop. (See the article Retailer for details.)

The verb to shop refers to the activity of searching for item(s) for the sake of purchasing them. Shopping most typically takes place at a retail shop, hence the verb's origins.
