Roman agriculture

While Rome is known for its many great accomplishments, Rome had a dull economy based on the backs of slaves, whose main job was to create the staggering amounts of food required to feed all those located in the Roman Empire. However Rome never quite developed the kind of massive agricultural society that was required for vast land area ruled by the Empire, unlike rival Civilizations of the time like China or India, who created enough food for their peasants, Instead the Roman empire depended on Cash crops such as Olives to sell so they could buy the Grain and other crops the empire would need.
