Robert D. Levin (b. 13 October 1947) is an acclaimed classical performer, composer, and musicologist. Perhaps his most important achievements are his completions of several unfinished Mozart works, especially the Requiem in D minor and Große Messe in C minor. John Eliot Gardiner commissioned him to write missing orchestral parts to five movements of Cantatas by J.S. Bach, resulting in other important, though less comprehensive, work. As a performer, he is most well known for his work as a piano soloist for Classical-Era concerti, and particularly for his expert handling of the works of Mozart. In performance, he attempts to re-create performance practice from the time of the composer, improvising long cadenzas and during supposed orchestral interludes. He is well known as an excellent musician who learns music quickly, and he claims to be able to learn practically any standard piano piece within three weeks. In addition to piano, he is also an accomplished performer on the harpsichord and fortepiano.
