Rhydon is a pokemon which evolves from Rhyhorn, and stands upright unlike its predecessor. It has a huge rotating horn resembling a drill head which it uses to drill through anything, including solid rock. Its armor is very strong, but its special stats leave it very weak against attacks such as Surf, which will inflict a one-hit KO. Ironically, it can learn Surf even though it is weak to it, a plot point in the anime.
Name Origin
Rhydon is a conjunction of "rhy" (rhinoceros) and "don" which means "lord." Translated it means "rhinoceros lord."
Anime Appearances
In the episode Right On, Rhydon! there is a Surfing Rhydon which a girl named Pietra tries to catch to build a tunnel which her other rock-types cannot because they are weak against water. She suceeds with the help of Ash, Team Rocket and friends and the tunnel is built.
