Peter Duncan (politician)

Peter John Duncan (born July 10, 1965) is the only Conservative Member of Parliament in Scotland. He is member for Galloway and Upper Nithsdale, Shadow Secretary of State for Scotland and Chairman of the Scottish Conservative & Unionist Party.

He took the seat from the Scottish National Party at the 2001 election - since the 1997 election the Conservatives had had no seats in Scotland at all. His majority was just 74 votes and the seat remains the SNP's no. 1 target.

Peter Duncan was born in Ayrshire, educated at the University of Birmingham, and after working in the retail sector joined his family textile business as managing director. He is married with two children.
