Mrinal Sen is a Calcutta-based Indian film director who makes non-commercial films in Bengali and a host of other languages. In his cinemetic ventures, he adheres to the genre of Italian neo-realism and French surrealism. He was educated at the Scottish Church College, Calcutta and at the University of Calcutta.
