The Manjaa is a traditional Punjabi bed. It consists of a wooden frame bordering a set of knotted ropes. Traditionally the user would lie directly on top of the ropes without an intervening mattress. The making of a Manjaa begins with the tying of a Jee (Life knot) at one corner of the bed. The art of weaving the manjaa is called manjaa unena . Manjaa were known as Charpoy (from the Punjabi word chaarpaaee) to the British.
