Mangaia is the most southerly of the Cook Islands and the second largest, after Rarotonga. It is of interest to geologists because it may be the oldest volcanic island in the Pacific Ocean.
Mangaia is also the name of the lair of Makuta, the villian of Lego's Bionicle franchise
