Western World

Many lunchboxes, especially those for children, feature bright colors and designs such as popular cartoons. The contents of a lunchbox often consist of a vacuum bottle containing a drink and homemade sandwiches. Lunch box manufacturers never use the term "lunchbox" and often prefer "lunch kit".

The original "lunchpail" was an actual pail or bucket. Later, special buckets were manufactured specifically for food.
