The Lotus Excel, built from 1985 to 1992, was a front engine rear drive car.
Due to Toyota's holding a large amount of Lotus' stock in the early 1980's, there was some sharing of technology between the marques, as is seen on this car. The Excel 2.2 shared numerous components, including the W57 manual transmission, driveshafts, rear differential, 14x7" alloy wheels, door handles, and tail lights, with Toyota's Mark II Celica Supra, which was made from 1982-1986. The engine was the familiar Lotus/Vauxhall twin cam.
