Karl Silberbauer (189? in Vienna – 1972) was a captain in the Sicherheitsdienst who was responsible for the 1944 arrest of Anne Frank and her family. [1]
Silberbauer himself was arrested in 1964 after having been discovered by Simon Wiesenthal; his subsequent confession helped to discredit claims that the Frank diary was a forgery. At trial, Silberbauer claimed to have been "just following orders."
