Kamila Shamsie is a Pakistani novelist, who writes in English. She was born in 1973, was brought up in Karachi. In addition to Kartography, she has written two other novels, In the City by the Sea (for which she was shortlisted for the John Llewelyn Rhys/Main on Sunday Prize, and received the Prime Minister's Award for Literature) and Salt and Safron. She was also selected as Orange's 21 Writers of the 21st Century. She is the daughter of the famous literary journalist, compiler and editor Muneeza Shamsie.
