John Byrne (Scottish artist)

John Byrne is a Scottish artist and scriptwriter, born in Paisley, Scotland on January 6, 1940.

He attended Glasgow School of Art. Several of his paintings hang in The Scottish National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh, including of Robbie Coltrane, his wife Tilda Swinton and a Self portrait. His writing credits include Scotch & Wry (1986), Tutti Frutti (1987) and The Slab Boys (1997).

In 2004 Byrne was made an associate of Royal Scottish Academy.
