Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership or JPFO is a group dedicated to the preservation of gun rights in the United States. They interpret the Second Amendment as granting the right of firearm ownership to all private citizens. Members do not have to be Jewish. The only membership requirement is support of the Bill of Rights for all citizens.
JPFO publishes the "Gran'pa Jack Freedom Booklets" and offers videos, T-shirts and other items. Their lapel pin is a rounded blue trapezoid with the JPFO symbols in gold-tone.
Accomplishments of JPFO
The JPFO is probably most noted for its documented expose of the fact that the Gun Control Act of 1968 passed under the leadership of then Senator Thomas J. Dodd (father of current Senator Christopher Dodd of Connecticut) was an almost word for word translation of his personally obtained copy of the Nazi-era Reichsgeletsblatt or National Weapons Law, which many say was used to disarm not just the Jews of Germany, but most all opposition groups prior to the total imposition of Nazi dictatorship.
They documented how Dodd had his personal copy, obtained when he served as a prosecutor at the Nuremburg Trials, translated by the Legislative Research Service and adapted to conform with the different legal system of the United States, turned into law through his chairmanship of the Juvinile Violence subcommittee following the Kennedy and King assassinations of the late 1960's.
The JPFO publishes a side by side comparison of the Reichsgeletsblatt (the two or three versions of it) with the GCA of 1968, along with other historical documentation of how it came to be our law.
This publication, which implies:
- that we in the US live under Nazi gun control laws, and
- that the US Democratic Party looks to the Nazi Party for legislative inspiration,
- anti-gunners are sympathetic to fascism,
has caused a scandal in gun control circles and helped markedly to bring the cause of gun rights back to the middle ground of political respectability. It has also established the JPFO as the most uncompromising gun rights group in the United States today.
