John Edward Hawkins (September 14, 1910 - July 18, 1973) was a British character actor who appeared in movies like The Bridge on the River Kwai, Lawrence of Arabia and The Cruel Sea. Modern audiences may remember him in such classics as Ben Hur (Quintus Arrius, Hur's adopted Roman father) and Zulu, where he played the unsympathetic Rev. Witt. He was married to Jessica Tandy from 1932 to 1942.
