Iwao Takamoto is a Japanese-born American animator, television producer, and film director. He is most famous as being a production designer for Hanna-Barbera Productions, and for designing the characters for Hanna-Barbera's most popular show, Scooby-Doo. Other programs he has deisnged for include Josie and the Pussycats, Help! It's the Hair Bear Bunch, SuperFriends, Wacky Races, and The Cattanooga Cats.

Later, Takamoto became a producer at Hanna-Barbera, supervising shows such as The Addams Family, Hong Kong Phooey, and Jabberjaw. In 1990, he directed the Jetsons animated feature, Jetsons: The Movie.

Takamoto continues to work on Scooby-Doo as a character designer for its latest incarnation, What's New, Scooby-Doo?
