"I'm A Slave 4 U" was Britney Spears' first single off of her self titled album, Britney, released in 2001. It was one of her most successful singles to date.
It parts ways with her previous singles for a number of reasons. First off, it was produced by the Neptunes, who have worked with artists such as Snoop Dogg, Jay Z, Mystikal, and other hip hop artists. Many believed it symbolized a change in genre. It was also, for many, the most "un-Britney" song she had ever released. The lyrics where somewhat raunchy (Baby / Don't you wanna / Dance upon me. is an example). Although Spears said that the song was about dancing and not necessarily sexual, her performance at the VMA's 2001 (which featured her dancing with a flesh colored snake), and the video that followed (a sweaty dance routine in a sauna, with several men circling her), meant that her explanation went unnoticed.
The single debued at #27 on the US charts.
