Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi

Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi is an American animated television series following the adventures of cartoon versions of J-Pop musical duo Puffy AmiYumi (a/k/a Puffy), created by the show's executive producer Sam Register and premiered on November 19, 2004.

According to Register, the show's target audience is kids from 6 to 11, particularly girls. Each program is 30 minutes long (with commercials) and features three seven-minute episodes. Each episode includes short clips of the real Puffy AmiYumi making childish commentary between episodes. In the cartoon, Yumi (pronounced "YOU-me") is depicted as a punk rocker, grouchy and super cynical while Ami (pronounced "AH-me") is peppy, cute and more "bubblegum". Kaz -- presumably a nickname -- is their well-intentioned and money grubbing manager, whose successes are usually evenly balanced out by his foolish decisions.

Despite the main characters being Japanese and occasionally peppering their dialogue with the language, it is one of the newer Cartoon Network shows not generally considered to be inspired by anime.

The show currently airs on Cartoon Network every Friday at 7:30 and 11 PM, Saturdays at 7 and 11:30 AM and Sundays at 7 AM, 1:30 and 7:30 PM Eastern and Pacific time in the US, with the main voice cast featuring Janice Kawaye as Ami, Grey DeLisle as Yumi, and Keone Young as Kaz.
