Henry Trengrouse (March 18th, 1772 - Feb 14th, 1854) was born in Helston, Cornwall, was educated at the Grammar School, and lived there all of his life, working as a builder and cabinet-maker.
Dismayed by the great loss of life he had witnessed when the frigate HMS Anson was wrecked on the nearby Loe Bar , he developed a rocket-powered rescue apparatus, an example of which is on display at Helston Folk Museum .
He is buried in the churchyard of St Michael's Church, Helston, and is commemorated in the naming of Trengrouse Way , a main thoroughfare in the town.
