Harbour Line

The Harbour Line is a branch of the Central Railway in Mumbai. The line is one of the three divisions of the Mumbai suburban railway. It covers most of the eastern flank of the city. The starting point is the Victoria Terminus railway station in South Mumbai. The line then splits from the main line at Sandhurst Road where the line becomes elevated up till Sewri. At Wadala , the line branches into two parts. The first line joins with the Western Railway at Mahim and terminates at Andheri. The second line terminates at Panvel in New Bombay, a distance of about 54 km. The first stop outside Bombay is the township of Vashi.

In 2004, a new line was opened to the public connecting Vashi to Thane without entering the city. This proved to be a boon for most commuters headed in either direction as travelling via Kurla was time consuming and resulted in the catching of two trains. Another line is in construction linking Uran to Belapur.

The line is a single line one way and has slums along most of its tracks in Mumbai. The Tilaknagar stop connects Kurla Terminus .
