Gun Law refers to a law that pertains to firearms and weapons. Gun laws are highly dependent on date and location, as they have changed along with developments in weapons and societies. Gun law has become a political and/or controversial issue in many societies. There are many differing views on how gun laws should be set up in a society.
The main gun law in the USA is called "brandishing a firearm". This is aiming or pointing a firearm or imitation firearm at an individual to induce fear, regardless of whether the weapon is loaded or capable of inflicting harm. It is a Class 1 misdemeanor in the United States, punishable by up to $250 in fines or up to one year jail sentence.
The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution states that:
- A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
Any gun laws that are drafted in the USA are subject to being challenged judicially if they violate the Second Amendment.
