Frode Øverli (born August 15, 1968, in Bergen, Norway) is one of Norway's most successful cartoonists.

Biography

He began his career in 1984 when his parodies on The Phantom became a regular in the Norwegian edition of the comic album. At that time, Frode was still a student, but dedicated much of his time to drawing.

Two years later, he was a regular cartoonist for the newly started humor comic "Pyton". In the beginning he drew after stories written by Dag Kolstad , John Kåre Raake , and later on for Bjørn Ousland . He was, however, soon forced to write his own stories, as it was limited what the others could write for him. His most famous comic strips from the time with "Pyton" is "Deep Shit Junkies" and "Birger-Egil".

In 1996 he decided to start for himself, and eventually split with "Pyton". He created a strip called "A-laget", which story was about three soccer supporters. This concept evolved into what is today known as Pondus, one of Scandinavia's most successful comic strips through all time. Parallelly with Pondus, he also drew two other comic strips: "Rutetid" and "Riskhospitalet".

Øverli has received the Norwegian Sproing Award twice; in 1998 with the first Pondus album, "Alt for Norge", and in 2003 for the christmas album "Pondus Julespesial 2003".

Besides cartoons, Øverli has illustrated many books.
