Federal Energy Regulatory Commission

Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC): The U.S. federal agency with jurisdiction over interstate electricity sales, wholesale electric rates, hydroelectric licensing, natural gas pricing, oil pipeline rates, and gas pipeline certification. FERC is an independent regulatory agency within the United States Department of Energy, and replaced the Federal Power Commission by an act of U.S. Congress in 1977.
