Donna Edna Shalala (born February 14, 1941) served as the United States Secretary of Health and Human Services under President Bill Clinton.
She is now president of the University of Miami.
As Clinton's Secretary of Health and Human Services, she frequently drew significant criticism from political conservatives and moderates for her liberal ideology. Shalala was known for her fervent anti-drug stance, saying: "Marijuana is illegal, dangerous, unhealthy, and wrong."
She also once served as Chancellor of the University of Wisconsin.
Shalala received her bachelors degree from Miami University's Western College Program and her doctorate degree from Syracuse University.
