Danzón

(Redirected from Danzon)

Danzon is the official music of Cuba, and derives from a European-influenced ballroom dance played by Cuban charangas. The style developed in the early part of the 20th century. These orchestras played refined music for the upper class in pre-Castro Cuba. The precursors of danzon are the danzonette and the habanera, both of which have their roots in French music that arrived in Cuba via Haiti.
