Council for National Policy

The Council for National Policy (CNP), is a conservative lobby group, membership of which is only available by invitation. (It is not to be confused with the liberal Center for National Policy .) It has been described as "a confidential network of several hundred highly influential conservative business leaders" (World Magazine Online).

CNP is rather secretive, having no content on its website ([1]) and no publically-available publications to speak of. Its 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status was revoked by the IRS in 1992 on the basis that the CNP was not an organisation run for the public benefit. The status was reinstated after a court challenge, but CNP has shown little sign of being more open since then. Membership remains available by invitation only, and a promised quarterly journal aimed at educating the public has not substantially materialised, although a website ([2]) exists.

CNP was founded in 1981 by Tim LaHaye, author of the Left Behind series of books. It employs around 8 people.
