Founded by Steve Ells in 1993, Chipotle Mexican Grill is a Colorado-based burrito and taco restaurant that is famous for their chunky guacamole and for being one of the first successful franchises in the newer category of fast-casual dining establishments--with more emphasis on quality and slightly higher prices than traditional fast food, but still a quick meal. The chief investor in Chipotle is the McDonald's Corporation.
The first restaurant started in Colorado, near a local university, and restaurants have since opened throughout the US.
Their menu is fairly simple, with your choice of one of 4 styles of wrap (hard or soft tacos, burrito, fajita burrito, or burrito bol), one of 4 meats (chicken, pork, shredded beef, or steak) or vegetarian, and various additional toppings. In addition, 4 types of salsa are available: a mild tomato, two medium ones, and a hot one. The pricing is based off of which meat one orders.
Latching on to the health food craze that gripped the nation, Chipotle is moving towards all natural ingredients. To date, Chipotle has all natural-free range pork and beef as well as organic dairy products such as cheese and sour cream.
