Charrua

Formerly a tribe in southern South America, the Charrua were slowly killed and integrated into the prevailing cultures of Uruguay and southern Brazil following the arrival of European settlers. There are few full-blooded Charrua remaining, though physical traces of their ancestry are sometimes noted in the inhabitants of their former strongholds. The Charrua are considered likely to have killed Spanish explorer Juan Díaz de Solís during his 1515 voyage up the Río de la Plata.
