Charlie Chaplin (singer)

Gene Chaplin (unrelated to the comedian of the same name) is a Jamaican dancehall and ragga singer. His career began in 1980 when he began working with U-Roy's Stur-Gav Hi-Fi collective. He became extremely popular throughout Scarborough Middle School, memorable for his saying "This could happen to you"

Happy Chappy's debut albums were This could happen to you and Chaplin Lecture , both major successes in Jamaica. Que Dem , produced by George Phang was phenomenally popular, and was one of the most critically acclaimed albums of the time. His popularity declined sharply in the late 1980s and 1990s, though; he continued recording, working with legends like Bunny Roots , Josey Wales, Sly & Robbie, Junjo Wales , Roots Radics and Doctor Dread .
