Charles Stanley (radio evangelist)

Dr. Charles F. Stanley is the senior pastor of the First Baptist Church Atlanta , as well as the founder of In Touch Ministries . He has also served two terms as President of the Southern Baptist Convention. He graduated from the University of Richmond, later receiving a B.Div from Southewestern Theological Seminary . Finally, he received his M.Th and a doctorate in Theology from Luther Rice Seminary .

Dr. Stanley became the senior pastor of First Baptist Church of Atlanta in 1971, and launched a half-hour religious television program the next year. The Christian Broadcasting Network began televising this show in 1978. In 1982, Stanley's In Touch Ministries was founded and its radio broadcasts began to be syndicated. During the 80s, this ministry's broadcasts were available in nearly every major American media market, and in 2005, the "IN TOUCH" program could be heard worldwide through short wave radio . In the United States, IN TOUCH is broadcast by 204 radio stations (most of which are AM) and is on several satellite networks. It is broadcast on 458 short-wave stations.

Furthermore, In Touch Ministries produces other video and audio programming, pamphlets, books, In Touch Magazine .

Stanley's writings and broadcasts address issues such as finances, parenting, personal crises, emotional matters, and relationships, and of course, conservative protestant Christianity. According to his website, "Dr. Stanley fervently believes the Bible to be the inerrant Word of God, a belief strongly reflected in his teaching."

In 1988, Stanley was inducted into the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) Hall of Fame. In 1989, he was named "Clergyman of the year" by Religious Heritage of America .
