Catalina Sandino Moreno (born April 19 1981 in Bogotá, Colombia) is an actress.
Before becoming an actress, she studied advertising at a Colombian college before relocating to New York City. In 2004, she was "discovered" at an acting school in Bogotá by an unknown figure. This person referred her to a casting agent for the 2004 film Maria Full of Grace. She received a nomination for Best Actress at the 77th Academy Awards. Moreno took acting classes at a Bogotá theater. She has lived with David Elwell from 2002 to the present. Moreno reads Spanish-language books because she misses hearing the language back home in Colombia. She is the first Colombian to be nominated for an Academy Award. Her mother is a pathologist. She went to a British school in Bogotá, Colombia. Moreno was in NY when she heard on TV that she was nominated for Best Actress in the 2005 Oscar race for her role in "Maria Full of Grace."
