Casualty

A casualty is a victim of an accident, injury or trauma. Human casualties are those people who have been killed or injured in a war, military combat, or disaster. People who are killed by disease in a war zone are also considered casualties. The number of casualties is often quoted by the media in these situations.

Casualties of War include all persons wounded (mentally or physically) or killed during a period of declared conflict. Deaths are separated into "in-action" deaths (KIA) and often total number deaths, which includes civilians.
