Brezno is a town in central Slovakia, with a current population of 22,875 (2001). First written evidence of the town's existence is dated 1265 when emperor Belo IV issued a charter for the hunters from the area of Liptov allowing them to use woods around the settlement, known as "Berezuno". Brezno has a partnership with the French town Meudon. Current mayor of the town is Jaroslav Demian.
