BartPE is a PE (Preinstalled Environment) one can create from Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 installation media. One of its uses is to recover data from a crashed system.
Although the creator of the disk argues that it is legally valid under existing copyright law exemptions for backup copies, the legal status of any such disk should be considered dubious at best.
