Pakistani writer Bapsi Sidhwa set one of her best-known novels, Ice-Candy-Man (1988; later published as Cracking India, 1991), in 1947, the year that India and Pakistan became two separate nations. The book was later adapted as the motion picture Earth (Dinodia Picture Agency, 1998).
