Arthur De Greef

Arthur De Greef (October 10, 1862 - August 29, 1940) was a Belgian pianist and composer.

Born in Leuven, he studied piano at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels under Louis Brassin, a student of Ignaz Moscheles. After graduating with the greatest distinction at the age of seventeen, he went to Weimar to complete his studies under Franz Liszt.

After two years in Weimar, he embarked on a successful career as a concert pianist, travelling widely. He became a friend of Edvard Grieg, who called him "the best performer of my music I have met with". He also enjoyed the endorsement of Camille Saint-Saens.

De Greef started composing only at the age of 30. His most significant works are his two piano concertos. He also thaught piano at the Brussels Conservatory.
