Alexander Thomson

(Redirected from Alexander 'Greek' Thompson)

Alexander "Greek" Thomson (1817-1875) one of the two great Glaswegian architects (the other being Charles Rennie Mackintosh). He produced a distinctive neoclassical architecture that gave him the nickname "Greek". Some of his more famous buildings include Holmwood House (in the South Side of Glasgow), The Saint Vincent Street Church (in the centre of Glasgow), and the row of what are now flats and University buildings in Oakfield Avenue (in the West End). His work has had a great and enduring impact on the city's appearance.
