Ablutions

Ablutions in the most liturgical denominations, such as The Episcopal Church, refers to a ritual cleansing of the chalice and paten used in the Eucharist after all have taken Communion.

This process is traditioanlly done by a deacon, celebrant, or chalice bearer . Often this includes consuming remaining bread and wine, rinsing the chalice and paten with water, and then using a purificator to dry them.

This can be done at the Altar at a Credence or in the Sacristy. This is usually done before any postcommunion prayers.
