Prof. Syed Ahmed Shah Patras Bokhari (1898-1958) was a Pakistani educationist, broadcaster, diplomat and essayist. Before Partition of the India in 1947, he was director general of the All India Radio. Basically he was a professor of English literature and thus served as principal of the Government College Lahore. The famous Urdu poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz and the leader of free verse in Urdu, Noon Meem Rashid etc were among his famous students. After the creation of Pakistan, he served as the permanent representative of the country in the United Nations from 1949-52. He died during his service and is buried in New York, US. A.S.

A. S. Bokhari was born in Peshawar and educated in G. C. Lahore. His thin volume of essays, Patras Kay Mazameen (Essays of Pitras), is considered the asset of Urdu humor. Due to his global vision he was known as ‘a citizen of the world.’
