There were three regiments in the British Army that were numbered the 79th Foot. These were:

• 79th Regiment of Foot -- Was formed in 1757. It moved to India in 1758 and saw service in the 2nd Carnatic War . In 1762 the regiment took part in the successful invasion of Manila, capital of the Spanish-controlled Philippines. It returned home the following year where it was disbanded.

• 79th Regiment of Foot (Royal Liverpool Volunteers) -- Saw service in the West Indies during the American Revolution.

• 79th (The Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders( Regiment of Foot -- Took part in many notable actions, including at the battles of Waterloo and Alma. It became The Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders on 1 July 1881.
